Strategic Audit
REFLECT > PLAN > IMPLEMENT > MEASURE
The Strategic Audit is key to the self-reflection stage of organizational learning. An audit is a critical examination of the strengths and weaknesses of the organization as well as an opportunity to redefine a company’s goals and mission.
The Strategic Audit is most useful when there are a number of stakeholder interests or a large senior management team. The goal of this approach is to use the audit process to reconcile differences in opinion about direction and capabilities. The audit highlights which areas of the business everyone can agree on and seeks to build bridges between the aspects of the business more ambiguous or less certain.
By focusing on the challenges and opportunities as symptoms, the underlying beliefs and assumptions that guide organizations decisions can be brought into question.
Often an organization has difficultly challenging its own assumptions. This is where an external consultant can help: with no background in the history of the organization and with no cultural bias, the external consultant is better able to challenge the status quo.
